How Should I Bulk Up?
I’m 15 years old, 140lbs, 5′ 11″. I wrestle so I am in great shape, but I want to try and wrestle at 152 or higher for next year. Im 14% body fat. This is how my day looks: After school I go for a wrestling workout for an hour and then wrestle for a half hour. ( I don’t go very hard during the workout), I go home and eat a snack then go to a gym where I workout hard for 45 minutes and then I fight MMA for an hour. I take in about 3500 calories a day but am not gaining any weight. I take in at least 90g of protien each day. I bought some Gaspari super pump and creatine and am going to try that next. What other supplements should I use? I always go into my workouts with a plan. What else can I do to increase my muscle mass? Also, are Animal Pak vitamins any better than say Centrum?
Your caloric intake seems to be about what you need to maintain your present weight and level of activity. Consider increasing this by 500 to 1000 C per day for a month and see if you have a weight gain. Also, an old rule of thumb for protien intake for atheletes looking to add muscle mass is about 1 gram for each pound of body weight. Keep in mind that the increase in protein is only effective if you are doung the type of exercise meant to add muscle, and will probably not improve your stamina significantly unless you are previously deficient in some essential amino acids (these are the amino acids that your body cannot synthesize and must be supplied from external sources). Eggs, fowl, fish, meat and dairy products supply these high quality protiens. The soy products supplement are sometimes lacking in some essential amino acids, so check the product analysis carefully. It usually seems that if the price is low, something is missing… but check the label because the actual analysis is what counts. As for the vitamins it is hard to tell. The name brands assure high quality, but this assurance come with a monetary cost. Exersizes that promote muscle mass gains are heavy weight lifting and isometric exersize. I sometrics are very effective at increasing mass and power but do very little in the way of increasing stamina. REMEMBER to always warm up and stretch your muscles thourougly before and during strenuous exersize to minimize injury and the resulting down-time.
